Real Madrid set to break the bank for Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez

Real Madrid may need to shatter the British transfer record if they are to sign Enzo Fernández from Chelsea this summer, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Speculation surrounding Fernández’s future has intensified following Chelsea’s disappointing exit from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.

The Blues suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge, crashing out 8-2 on aggregate in a result that has raised fresh questions about the club’s direction under Liam Rosenior.

Chelsea’s struggles extend beyond Europe, with the London side currently sitting sixth in the Premier League and at risk of missing out on Champions League qualification.

When asked about his future, Fernández refused to give a definitive answer.

“I don’t know, I don’t know. There are eight games left and the FA Cup. There’s the World Cup and then we’ll see,” he told ESPN Argentina as revealed by Football 365.

His comments have only added to growing speculation that the Argentine midfielder could consider a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Reports in Spain have linked Fernández with a switch to Real Madrid, and Jacobs has now revealed that the Spanish giants would be the player’s preferred destination if he leaves.

Despite the growing rumours, Chelsea are under no pressure to sell.

The 23-year-old is under contract until 2032, meaning the club retain full control over his future.

Jacobs insists any deal would require a fee above the British transfer record, as Chelsea are unwilling to accept a loss on a player they signed for a massive fee.

Chelsea are not going to sell Fernández for a book loss, and only a handful of clubs can afford him, Jacobs explained.

Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley also weighed in on the situation, suggesting Fernández may be tempted by a move abroad amid the club’s instability.

With the summer window approaching, Real Madrid’s interest could test Chelsea’s resolve, but any move will depend on whether the Spanish giants are willing to meet the enormous financial demands required to land one of the club’s prized assets.
